Actually: He told us we got an automatic A because we did so much work on it. Which rules.

i saw him in an amazingly 90 minute live set at lehigh university recently. All it took was me shouting out "DUPHRANE!" and he immediatly launched in, "i was at this resturaunt, waiting for my table"
...
...
...
AND THEY ALL WANT SUNCHIPS!
Do you have his second cd? Its not as unique or amazing, but some seriouslly funny shit.

I've always found the history of The Comics Code interesting but reading about it was never as fun as listening to your opera. Not sure if you are performing the music or sampling but either way it all sounds great. Really amazing work! Got here from a link on the Bendis Board--just so you know.

thanks,
natalie

Thank you for the unexpected and totally amazing praise! All of the music here was performed live by Matt and myself, either with analog instruments or through MIDI sequencing/triggering.

I am pretty pumped that my roommate posted about that. He is good people.

I had no idea you were going to actually RECORD IT! Holy crap, that's the coolest thing ever. I wish I was that creative and motivated so I could write rock operas instead of research papers.

Pretty much any excuse I have not to write YATP (yet another term paper) I jump on and frantically dry-hump, now that I am about to enter my tenth semester in college (summer sessions inclusive).

That's pretty great! I expect you to choreograph, film, and upload to the Internet music videos for all of this within the next four hours, of course.

I feel that you should own a MIDI guitar. Behold! The power of a guitar with the versaitility of MIDI, or vice-versa!

I like to hear music that is not a slave to the THREE-MINUTE POP MUSIC FORM.

Why the hell am I still awake?

I really want a MIDI guitar, too, especially now that MIDI sample-triggering has gotten amazingly easy thanks to advances in computing. Remember how amazed my dad and I were by the Apple ]['s (i think) ability to approximate kerning in some stick-figure animation studio application you had? All this MIDI stuff is like that, except cooler to me, because I know how to use it. Unfortunately, MIDI guitars were all in the $10K+ range the last time I checked. So I guess I'll have to wait until that whole racehorse jockeying gig kicks in.

This thing appears to be relatively cheap, though still not something I will actually see my way clear to, say, buying anytime soon.

Also, you should mail this to WFMU so they can ignore it just like they ignored the stuff I mailed them.

"MOMMY GIVE ME MY COMIC BOOK BACK"

"I Am The Comics Code" is pretty good, if you don't mind letting it be the title track and thus the main focus.

You should come up to Burlington VT and perform it. Ideally as a double-header with Kochalka's "Carrot Boy"

I haven't listened to these yet, but I intend to. I just wanted to let you know that for the past three-plus years Art Spiegelman (yes, that one) has been trying to get a musical onto Broadway called "Drawn to Death," a fictionalized version of Jack Cole and one of the EC crime artists fates after the Code was created. Cole, the creator of Plastic Man (here called "Rubber Pup") ended up committing suicide, whereas the EC artist murdered his mistress. I don't know the current status of Spiegelman's musical, but the more the merrier, I say. Keep up the great work!

Ken A.

Man, if I wasn't a big hack I'd write something about great minds thinking alike. As it is, that's amazing news; I love the hell out of Cole's work, and Spiegelman, well, right. I seriously hope that gets made.

If it becomes the next "The Producers," Peopel will be in a mad rush to pick up the next great Musical about comic books. Unfortunatly If you construct a Venn Diagram of the peopel that like musical theater and the people that like Comic books you will have enough peopel to fill a theater a hand full of times. You own for makign a GREAT project.
